I am bringing you my Minty Citrus Spritzer as promised… and just in time for backyard BBQ season.
There is something so refreshing about a citrus cocktail. Contrary to popular belief, the genus “citrus” includes a variety of fruits so it is not only confined to the orange. Some of these include grapefruits, lemon, limes, blood oranges, tangerines and lesser known Greek citron, Finger lime and Calamondin. Citrus has a variety of flavor profiles from sweet to sour to bitter.
Feel free to make this as a traditional spritzer with white wine or do without.
This is more of a refreshing springtime-summer treat that anyone can enjoy (of any age).
Nutrition:
Oranges: One serving provides nearly 100% of your daily vitamin C intake. Vitamin C (also known as ascorbic acid) has the unique ability to reduce iron to its ferrous form making it easier for your body to absorb and utilize. Of course vitamin C is also linked to collagen production, a protein that promotes skin structure and elasticity.
Mint: Mint is the most refreshing of all herbs, in my humble opinion. It has been shown to be healing to those with bowel irregularities. These healing properties are related to its ability to relax smooth muscle.
