It’s National Apple Month! This morning we celebrated on CBS WSPA, Your Carolina with some delicious ways to enjoy apples – other than apple pie.
The essentials:
An apple a day keeps the dietitian away, a good source of fiber and vitamin C. Did you know that there are over 7000 varieties of apples? I love honey crisp but have never met an apple that I don’t like. Everyone needs an apple wedger — especially in the fall! They create perfect wedges and protect you knuckles. Great for dipping into almond butter or if you’re feeling seasonal you can do a warm caramel dip.
Move over apple pie:
Instead of apple pie, opt for apple cinnamon oats aka fall in a bowl. Use your pressure cooker or sous vide to cook your oats for a hands-off meal that cooks itself when you are getting ready for work. Check out this guide on how to choose the best sous vide that will help you to cook your oats with minimal effort. My go-to recipe for two: 1 cup oats, 1 diced apple, 1 tbsp brown sugar, 1 tbsp cinnamon, 2 cups water, 1 tbsp ghee.
If you are not an oats person, try WAFFLES! I love a good apple cinnamon waffle topped with sautéed apples in ghee, cinnamon and sugar. Search the blog for my go-to recipes. You have yourself another easy, delicious, apple-packed breakfast.
Time for a Cocktail:
It’s 5 o’clock somewhere! I shared a 3-Ingredient Sparkling Apple Hot Toddy made with a serving of brandy, a little honey and sparkling apple water. Simply heat over the stovetop and serve with cinnamon sticks and apple for garnish. Cheers to apple month!
