Today on News 4 Jacksonville, we celebrated Valentine’s Day with a nutritious twist.
Keto-friendly salad
The keto diet is super popular right now which is low carb, high fat BUT you want to focus on the good kind of fat. I shared a delicious keto salad with a homemade dressing is made with the Pompeian Organic Extra Virgin Olive Oil which is USDA-certified Organic and adds delicious, full bodied flavor.
Beet Hummus
Next I shared beet hummus made with canned foods, in honor of National Canned Food Month. Cans provide year-round access to seasonal fruits and vegetables AND keep food fresh and flavorful without the need for preservatives and additives. So it’s something you can feel good about serving your friends and family in creative meals. You can find this recipe and more at CansGetYouCooking.com.
Veggie forward comfort foods
Next I shared comfort foods with a veggie forward twist. Yves Veggie Cuisine includes everything from your breakfast foods to your Kale & Quinoa and Falafel bites. They recently released data showing that one in five men have ended a relationship over dietary differences but nearly 2/3s of them say they will eat less meat if their partner asked them to – this is a great place to start!
Pomegranate-sweetened brownies
For dessert, I shared brownie bites sweetened exclusively with dates and pomegranate juice. Pomegranate juice is one of the highest sources of polyphenol antioxidants, which have been linked to things like memory and athletic performance. POM Wonderful 100% pomegranate juice has no added sugar or preservatives.
Red and white wine
It’s not Valentine’s Day without wine – I shared the Pasqua Romeo and Juliet red and white wine. These are produced in Verona, Italy where Romeo and Juliet took place. In fact, the label is a photo of the famous grafted wall of Juliet’s house where thousands of love notes are written each day.
