Smoothies are an easy way to get a lot of nutrition quickly. Enjoy these 3 unique combinations whether you want something sweet or something for every day!
“Are smoothies healthy?”
This is a question I get asked often and while many can taste like a glorified milkshake, the smoothies I make always have some healthy component. While I am not one to advocate drinking all your calories in the form of juices or smoothies, it can certainly serve as a meal replacement or snack when done correctly.
Last week on CBS, I shared tips on how to make your juices taste good while still packing all the green goodness that carries the majority of nutrition. The trick of course is adding enough fruit to mask their bitterness.
Over the past two weeks I have been sharing some smoothie combinations I have been loving over on Instagram using Kura Smoothie Starters. I tried Kura over a year ago after finding them on Instagram and reading about their starter pack ingredients. Their starter packs not only boast 14 grams of protein which makes them a great post-workout option, they also pack precious vitamins and minerals like omega-3 fatty acids and probiotics which are important for gut health and immunity and not found . Everyday Smoothie:
I call this the everyday smoothie because it is one you can drink everyday as a supplement to your current meals. It is simple and one you can make with ingredients you have on hand. Clementines are especially great this time of year because they keep well for a long time and you don’t have to rush to eat them before they go bad.
- 1 cup frozen banana
- 1 clementine
- 1 cup kale
- 1 scoop vanilla Kura
Detox Smoothie:
Citrus is the ultimate detox ingredient. Lemon in particular helps aid the digestive process and is a mild diuretic which helps with elimination. All citrus boasts ascorbic acid which helps us better absorb nutrients found in whole grains and iron from plants.
- 1/2 orange
- 1 small apple
- 1/2 lemon
- 1 tsp coconut flakes
- 1 cup water
- 1 scoop vanilla Kura
Dessert Smoothie:
Banana, dates, chocolate and PB make the ultimate sweet tooth satisfying treat. While this makes for a sweet drink, you can feel better knowing that these ingredients boast nutrients that support our health better than a milkshake from a fast-food restaurant.
- 1 tbsp chocolate chips
- 1 cup frozen banana
- 3 dates
- 1 tsp peanut butter
- 1 cup milk
- 1 scoop vanilla Kura
