National SMT: Holiday Health Reset: Tips to Keep Your Energy, Immunity & Joy All Season Long

As the holiday season ramps up and temperatures drop, it’s easy to let our health routines slip. I partnered with a few brands to share some practical, science-backed ways to stay well through the holidays and into the winter months.

Indulge in a wellness getaway

I love the idea of a wellness getaway. These trips are a great way to break out of your routine, help reduce stress hormones, improve sleep and physical well-being, all while boosting creativity. Victoria British Columbia is the ultimate place to revive and refresh. It has everything from a hydrotherapy circuit on a restored 1940s war barge in the heart of the Inner Harbour—where the views are jaw dropping, the saunas warm and the plunges are icy—to “garden bathing” in the city where blooms and greenery are everywhere. As you see, Victoria British Columbia is a perfect getaway for body and mind. You can fuel with local ingredients plucked from field and the sea, prepared with love and creativity to not just nourish, but also delight. Set your intention for 2026 this January in Victoria British Columbia  with two-weeks of wellness focused activities to set a path of wholeness and self-kindness in the year ahead. Superfoods to boost your nutrition

I’m a super fan of superfoods. These are nutrient-dense foods that provide a significant amount of essential vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and other beneficial compounds. As a registered dietitian, I look for Salmon from Chile because it’s a nutrition powerhouse. It’s especially high in protein, omega-3 fats, and vitamin D. It also has many other nutrients that can help support the immune system and keep your body strong all winter long. Chilean salmon is considered a U.S. FDA best choice for pregnant women and children, because of its extremely low levels of mercury. The FDA also includes salmon on its list of foods that meet the new criteria for its updated definition of “healthy,” which focuses on nutrient-dense foods that promote long-term health. I’m also a fan of sorghum. It’s a versatile grain that’s a natural source of antioxidants. Sorghum is a good source of protein and provides other essential nutrients, including zinc, selenium and copper. It’s naturally gluten-free, non-GMO and grown in the United States. It cooks like other grains using your stovetop, slow cooker, oven or rice cooker. I like to use sorghum flour as a substitute for gluten-free versions of your favorite baked goods, like pumpkin bread, pecan pie, and pfeffernusse cookies. Check out a couple other of my favorite recipes. The Whole Grain Sorghum Stuffing is perfect for Thanksgiving, it’s prepared with whole grain sorghum, roasted veggies, parsley, and pecans. I also love the Air-Fried Sorghum Bagels. These are made with whole grain sorghum flour, baking powder, and Greek yogurt. So tasty and sure to satisfy the entire family. Find these recipes and more at SorghumCheckoff.com.
