Tip 1: Swap out traditional pizza crust for broccoli crust
My first tip is to incorporate one more serving of veggies in the new year and these are some unique ways to do that – riced broccoli and broccoli and kale crust pizza! I used produce by Foxy Brand who grows around 75 different fresh conventional and organic vegetables and strawberries.
Tip 2: Swap out traditional pasta for veggie noodles
Another unique way to incorporate more veggies is to replace traditional pasta with veggie noodles and Noodles & Company is a great place to start if you are dining out. You can customize any dish with zucchini noodles or the new cauliflower-infused caulifloodles, which boast a full serving of veggies in a regular portion. I shared the Zucchini Shrimp Scampi and Grilled Orange Chicken Lo Mein which will both be available in over 450 locations nationwide next Wednesday.
Tip 3: Swap out sugar-sweetened beverages for fruit-infused water
My next tip is to replace sugar-sweetened beverages with fruit-infused sparkling water. Start with sparkling water and fresh fruit. Then add a True Lemon Lemonade or Limeade packet – these have 10 calories each and are made with simple, clean, non-GMO ingredients and no artificial sweeteners, flavors or preservatives. You can find them at Safeway, Giant, Harris Teeter and Amazon.
Tip 4: Swap out ice cream for creamy skyr
Next we are replacing ice cream with krimi skyr, which is the whole milk version of the traditional skyr by Icelandic Provisions. Skyr is similar to greek yogurt buts it tastes less tart and has a thicker consistency. It’s ultra creamy, boasts 11 grams of protein and is lower in sugar. It also doesn’t contain artificial preservatives, thickens, sweeteners, flavors or colors
Tip 5: Swap out candy for stevia-sweetened chocolate
Finally if you love sweets but your New Year resolution is to reduce added sugar in your diet – these will be your new best friends: no-sugar added chocolate and confections by Lily’s Sweets. I shared peanut butter cups, chocolate covered almonds and chocolate bars which help make it easy to break up with added sugar. Plus they are gluten-free, non-gmo, keto-friendly and come in vegan options.
