Today on CBS Las Vegas NOW, I share easy ways to eat healthier in 2021!
Tip 1: Snack smarter in 2021 by focusing on protein and fiber.
This combination is the most satisfying for the least amount of calories helping to stabilize blood sugars and keep you full until your next meal. Pair whole grain crackers and produce with hummus, nuts, cheese or meat snacks. CHOMPS meat snacks are made from high-quality protein like grass-fed and finished beef and free-range turkey with 9-10 grams of protein per stick. They have no added sugar, artificial preservatives and come in delicious varieties including Italian Style Beef and Jalapeno Turkey.
Tip 2: Cook more meals at home.
Meals prepared outside of the home are almost always higher in saturated fat and sodium with less calcium, iron and fiber than foods prepared at home. Build nutritious meals at home around protein, produce, carbohydrates and low-calorie flavor like spices, fresh herbs and condiments like salsa. My sheet pan bell chip nachos check all your boxes. Start by roasting the bell peppers in the oven for 20 minutes at 400 F, to a large mixing bowl add fresh produce toppings of choice, slow-cooked pulled chicken and salsa. I use the Fresh Cravings crisp, authentic tasting salsa made by a family-owned, Arizona-based company with vine-ripened tomatoes and zesty vegetables. It is available in restaurant style or chunky and is a great way to sneak in more vegetables. You can find it chilled in the produce section at Walmart and Smith’s.
Tip 3: Use nutritious ways to satisfy your sweet tooth in the new year.
My bloomin’ apples are a nutritious and fun way to do that! I used the rich red Envy apples which have a crisp texture and balanced sweetness – they are hard not to fall in love with. They’re the ultimate apple and perfect for sharing and savoring. Start by slicing off the top of the apples and using a melon baller to scoop out the core Use a paring knife to make two circular cuts, then place your apple cut side down on a cutting board and slice crosswise. Brush your apples with a mixture of ¼ cup of maple syrup and ½ tsp of cinnamon and bake for 30 minutes at 400 F.
