The holiday season is underway, I share healthy holiday recipes and cooking tips to make this holiday season a delicious and nutritious one on CBS Atlanta!
First, put a healthy twist on baked goods with one of my favorite healthy holiday baking staples – applesauce which allows you to cut back on the amount of fat or oil used in recipes while keep them moist and flavorful. For my low sugar, low fat and flour-free chocolate chip oatmeal cookies, combine ½ cup of rolled oats, 1 cup quick oats, 1 tsp of pure vanilla extract, ¼ cup of creamy nut butter, 2 Brainiac Foods Brain Squeezer applesauce pouches and ¼ cup chocolate chips. Bake for 8 min at 350 F. The Brainiac Foods Brain Squeezers are also a perfect parenting hack during the busy holiday season. These delicious applesauces come in three popular flavors mega apple, apple cinnamon and apple strawberry with no added sugar or artificial flavors and are packed with brain fuel including omega-3 DHA fatty acids and choline – nutrients normally found in foods like fatty fish. You can find the Brainiac Foods Brain Squeezers at Publix and Walmart.
And cheers to the holiday season with a sparkling cranberry orange holiday punch! For one serving, combine 1/3 cup cranberry juice, 1/3 cup sparkling water, 2 juiced satsuma mandarins and garnish with sliced mandarins, cranberries, cinnamon sticks and rosemary. Juicy brand Satsuma Mandarins are farmed in North Florida and South Georgia and are only available for a few months each winter so snatch them up while you can! These mostly seedless, easy-to-peel satsumas are loaded with vitamin C a key nutrient important for immune health. You can find Juicy brand Satsumas exclusively at Publix.
