The biggest food holiday of the year is next week! Today on Good Food Friday, I shared four easy ways upgrade your healthy Thanksgiving spread. Catch the segment here!
Swap butter for better
Sweet potato casserole is my favorite! What I did in my recipe was swap butter for better – I used Cocavo which is a coconut and avocado oil blend from New Zealand that just hit Walmart stores nationwide. Because of its unique blend, it has a high smoke point, which makes it great for all types of cooking and baking and if you love the sweet flavor of coconut oil – this is a healthier alternative because it is lower in saturated fat and higher in good mono- and polyunsaturated fats from the avocado oil.
Lots of flavor and not a lot of calories
Next up I shared my vegetarian quinoa stuffed acorn squash. This recipe is great because it doesn’t require a whole pantry of spices and herbs – I simply used Pacific’s Organic Mushroom Broth to give it a savory earthy flavor. I think some people forget that broth can be used for more than just soups, you can use it to cook grains, sauté veggies, enhance proteins – it adds a lot of flavor and not a lot of calories.
Cheers to the holidays
I am all about bringing balance to your holiday spread including great tasting beer. I shared Michelob ULTRA Pure Gold it’s a first of its kind organic beer that’s lower in calories and carbohydrates than a glass of wine. One bottle has 85 calories and 2.5 grams of carbs. It’s made with organic grains, free from artificial flavors or colors, and it has a light and refreshing taste so it pairs well with all of your Thanksgiving food.
A unique way to sweeten Thanksgiving treats
Finally I shared some sweet treats made with the organic craft sparkling beverages by Sipp which add sweetness and lightness to the batter because of the carbonation. They are made with organic fruits and herbs. They recently reformulated their products to cut the calorie and sugar content in half so — great to have on hand for the healthy hostess.
