It’s officially Tailgate season! This Friday on ABC’s Lowcountry Live I will be talking food and beverages for a healthier tailgate.
Today, I am all about the beverage. Tailgates are typically associated with beer. While, I am a dietitian who promotes balance and everything in moderation, when it comes to alcohol I am biased to red wine for its health components. Not to mention it pairs seamlessly with your grilled tailgate fare.
The dietary guidelines for Americans say that if alcohol is consumed, it should be in moderation – up to one drink per day for women and up to two per day for men. From a nutrition perspective, red is the way to go when it comes to wine because of its antioxidants and research suggests it may be even help prevent heart disease when enjoyed in moderation.
This punch is packed with antioxidants from the red wine and seasonal berries.
It is made with the Trivento Reserve Malbec which is produced in Mendoza, Argentina. It is deep red and violet in color with powerful aromas of ripe red fruits, strawberries and cherries with hints of coffee and chocolate from the oak. It is an ideal match to full-flavored food and barbecued meat which makes it perfect for your college tailgate!
