Last week I was a guest on NBC Jacksonville First Coast Living where I shared better for you tailgate recipes and tips.
Add veggies to your tailgate
Veggies areare low in calories but high in vitamins, minerals and fiber and most of us don’t eat enough of them. Aim for at least 3-3.5 servings of veggies per day. I shared some fun ways to incorporate them including a fall slaw made with Foxy organic brand kale and red cabbage and cauliflower crust pizza strips made with Foxy brand conventional cauliflower. Foxy brand is a family owned company that produces FRESH conventional and organic vegetables and strawberries. You can find them at Publix, the Fresh Market and Walmart.
Add high quality protein to your tailgate
For our main course, I shared lamb two ways, which is a flavor-forward, nutrient-rich source of high quality protein. One 3-ounce serving of lamb fuels half of your daily protein needs and provides essential vitamins and minerals including zinc, vitamin b12 and omega-3 fats. It’s easy to prepare as you would other proteins, using a meat thermometer can help you not overcook it. It’s also super versatile– I share them in Mediterranean burgers and lamb chops You can find some great recipe ideas at AmericanLamb.com.
Gear up for game day
Finally I shared a fun beverage to help you gear up for game day. CELSIUS is a better for you energy drink with zero calories and sugar and no artificial ingredients and is infused with 7 essential vitamins. It was designed to provide sustained energy without the crash or jitters. They even have research to show how CELSIUS can help you burn more calories during your workout – so bring it to your tailgate and the gym!
