National Satellite Media Tour: Healthy Habits for 2022

January 12, 2022

Now’s the perfect time to think about all the new ways to approach a healthier and happier year. I’m excited to share my tips with viewers across the country this week.

Tip #1:  More movement!

It’s recommended that we get 150 minutes of moderate aerobic activity or 75 minutes of vigorous aerobic activity a week. And it’s all about finding what works for you. It could be a brisk walk around the neighborhood or if you’re further along in your fitness journey, perhaps it’s going out for a run or swimming laps. Just be sure to talk to your doctor about setting up any new routine that supports your overall health and wellness.

Tip #2: Get your Zzz’s!

Sleep has a tremendous impact on our mental and physical health. First, stick to a consistent sleep schedule — go to bed and wake up the same time every day — including weekends. Next, create a room that’s ideal for sleeping — cool, dark, and quiet, and aim for 7 hours each night.nHowever, I know it’s sometimes hard to fall asleep. That’s why I recommend Natrol Sleep+. From the #1 drug-free sleep aid brand in America, Natrol Sleep+ is an innovative product line that blends melatonin and secondary ingredients with calming, beauty and immune health benefits, all designed to plus up your sleep. There’s three gummies choose from: Immune Health which supports a healthy immune system and helps you get revitalizing sleep. Natrol Sleep+ Calm which helps calm an active mind and body to ease you to sleep. And Beauty which helps you get better sleep and wake up looking refreshed and renewed. These gummies are great-tasting, 100% drug-free, non-GMO, vegetarian & gelatin free, and free of synthetic dyes, artificial flavors, preservatives or sweeteners like corn syrup. You can find them at Natrol.com, Amazon and all major retailers and drug stores.

Tip #3: Meet your recommended 1 ½-2 1/2 cups of fruit and 2 to 4 cups of vegetables each day

As a Registered Dietitian, I’m always looking for ways to eat healthy while getting creative in the kitchen. This year, I’d love for families to focus on eating more fruits and vegetables. It’s an easy way to get the nutrients that are needed to help support your immune system. Healthy adults should aim for 1 ½-2 1/2 cups of fruit and 2 to 4 cups of vegetables each day. I always say eat a rainbow of produce and one way to do that is with a charcuterie snack board with your favorite dip. Good Foods has a variety of plant-based dips to make heathy eating easy and delicious. Their wide selection of better-for-you dips, including new Spicy Queso Blanco, have something for everyone — including those living vegan, paleo and keto lifestyles — and are packed with flavor and contain no added sugar. They can be eaten solo or as a part of your favorite recipes. Look for Good Foods’ dips and spreads in stores nationwide, including Target and Costco.

Tip #4: Spend less time on social media.

Try auditing how much time you spend on popular platforms and really be aware of what kind of information you’re consuming and if it’s having a positive or negative affect on your life. It’s been found that limiting your social media engagement to 30 minutes per day leads to better mental health and positively impacts your overall well-being.
