School is back in session! Today I share healthy recipes and tips on Fox Denver.
Elevated PB&J
First up we have an elevated take on PBJ. Start with your Silver Hills Bakery sprouted whole grain bread. Sprouted bread is higher in protein and fiber and the vitamins and minerals are made more bioavailable during the sprouting process. Then add Crofters Organic Strawberry Banana Spread which has more fruit and 33% Less sugar than traditional jams and jellies. Finally, add your fruit and nut butter.
Build a better after school snack
Next, have kids build their own satisfying snack by pairing produce and protein. For produce, I have fresh options and the That’s It Crunchables and Mini Fruit Bars which are made from actual fruit – that it, no juices, purees or concentrates. Then add protein options like cheese, jerky and pistachios which are one of the highest protein snack nuts with 6 grams per serving and 3 grams of fiber. About 90% of the fats they contain are unsaturated. That trio of protein, fat and fiber may help keep you fuller longer.
3-ingredient dessert
Finally, I have we have my 3-ingredient chocolate banana pops. Start with bananas on popsicle sticks and dip into melted Endangered Species oat milk chocolate. Oat milk adds smooth, creaminess ad is vegan and dairy-free. Then dip into crushed pistachios and freeze until set.
