CBS Tampa: Go Mostly Plant-Based for Earth Month

April 10, 2023

It’s national earth month! You can support YOUR health AND the health the plant this month and all year long, by eating more plant-based. Compared to animal foods, plant foods require less environmental inputs and have a lower carbon footprint.

Build a balanced plant-based snack by pairing protein with fiber. Such as nuts, roasted chickpeas or edamame paired with fruit. Crispy Fruit by Crispy Green are freeze-dried fruit snacks made with 1 ingredient, 100% pure fruit and nothing else. You can find them at The Fresh Market. Another delicious fruit option is Crispy Green’s Piña Picante which are air dried pineapples infused with bold flavors such as Chili Lime, Ginger Lime and Coco Chili Tamarindo so they are sweet and spicy, you can find them at CrispyGreen.com or on Amazon.

Another balanced plant-based snack option nutritious dip like salsa or hummus with whole grain pita, crackers or veggies. I love the Fresh Cravings Salsa because it’s made with a short list of clean organic ingredients including vine ripened tomatoes, crisp vegetables, zesty pepper sand spices. It’s also refrigerated instead of jarred, you can find it chilled in the produce section at Publix.

My next tip is to incorporate one meatless meal each week such as a meatless Monday. The Wholly Veggie restaurant-style entrees and appetizers are convenient options because they are vegan, gluten-free and filled with veggies. The cheddar style jalapeño sticks are so crispy and gooey, you’ll forget they’re dairy free ad the good lunches are packed with veggies with up to 13 grams of protein. You can find them at Walmart, Target, Sprouts

My last tip is to cut back on food waste. There are many ways to help achieve this including taking inventory of what you have and creating a weekly meal plan, storing food properly, and composting. The Lomi Smart Waste Composter turns your food waste into fertilizer for your plants + lawn. Everything from your fruit and veggie scraps to even meat, dairy and compostable plastics and packaging. You can find it on Amazon and at Best Buy
