CBS Denver: Staying Healthy At Home

While spending more time at home, it is important to keep up our healthy eating habits to keep our immune system strong. Today I shared how to build healthy meals at home on CBS Denver.

Healthy Meals

When it comes to building healthy balanced meals at home – I recommend using what you have on hand following my formula of pairing produce with protein and a whole grain. For breakfast you might have oatmeal with frozen berries and raw nuts. For lunch you might have black beans with lettuce and quinoa. Whole grains options include oatmeal, quinoa, brown rice and whole grain bread. Proteins could be low-sodium canned beans, canned tuna, frozen fish. Produce can be options that keep well for weeks like apples, oranges, potatoes and frozen broccoli. Get creative with what you have!

Healthy Snacks

We are at home and snacking more which makes having healthy options on hand that much more important and these are items you can make at home or get online. For your crunchy snacks I recommend popcorn, roasted chickpeas and roasted seaweed snacks which all provide filling fiber. For your sweet snacks, choose no added sugar dried fruit, dark chocolate or homemade banana ice-cream.

Healthy Desserts

For dessert, you don’t have to let your sweet tooth get the best of you. I always encourage choosing desserts with benefits like chickpea blondies, black bean brownies or pb dipped dates.
