Football season is underway and I share the perfect portable meal you can enjoy at your tailgate or homegate with a nutritious twist on CBS Atlanta – walking tacos!
Start with your chips
Studies suggest that Americans consume around 3400 mg of sodium which is 50% more than the daily recommended 1500-2300 mg per day recommended by the American heart association for blood pressure management and heart health. That’s why I recommend SaltMe! Chips because you get the salty satisfaction we crave in a chip, but with 50% less sodium per serving on average. SaltMe! Chips taste just like your regular potato chips, but have only 85 mg of sodium per serving compared to regular potato chip which have around 170 mg. That’s because Salt Me Chips are flavored with microsalt – a Revolutionary Patented Technology that makes regular grains of salt 100 times smaller so each each bite is transformed into an explosion of saltiness and flavor with less sodium. SaltMe! Chips come in 4 flavors Original, BBQ, Sour Cream & Cheddar, and Sour Cream & Onion, and are gluten-free, kosher and non-gmo. You can find them on sale now at Kroger stores around Atlanta.
Next, be picky with your protein
Chicken and ground turkey are both lean options but you can even use black beans or ground tempeh for a plant-based option. Simply cook with olive oil and taco seasoning
Finally it’s all about the toppings.
Vegetable toppings like red onion, tomatoes and romaine add filing fiber and nutrients like vitamin C. Natural cheese like cheddar and swiss are naturally lower in lactose and good sources of calcium. And salsa and guacamole are nutritious condiment options.
