ABC Tampa: Big Game Bites

The Big Game is right around the corner, and whether you’re hosting a party or just looking for some delicious, better-for-you options, I’ve got you covered with fresh and flavorful ingredients from Sprouts Farmers Market.

First, we have a colorful, nutrient-rich twist on a game-day staple – loaded potato skins made with purple potatoes. Purple potatoes contain anthocyanins, the same powerful antioxidants found in blueberries, which help reduce inflammation and support overall health. Find them at Sprouts which is home to the most delicious, fresh fruits and veggies nature has to offer. Their wide selection features the freshest assortment of local, organic, unique, and seasonal produce at great prices. To make these loaded purple potato skins, bake the potatoes, for 40 min at 400 F, slice in half and scoop out the flesh. Sprinkle the skins with cheese and bake for another 10 minutes before topping with bacon bits, green onion and sour cream.

Another way to utilize Sprouts local and organic fresh produce is with these cauliflower buffalo wings. These cauliflower buffalo wings pack all the flavor of classic wings but with less fat and more fiber, vitamins and minerals. In a bowl, mix 1 cup of breadcrumbs with a teaspoon each of garlic powder, paprika and salt. Dip cauliflower florets in almond milk, then the breadcrumbs mixture and bake for 20 minutes at 425. Toss with buffalo sauce and bake for another 10 minutes. But of course there is nothing wrong with going with the real thing. These Sprouts brand chicken wings are crowd pleasing and can save you time in the kitchen and more time watching the game.

For the main event, you can’t go wrong with a game-day classic like grass-fed beef burgers. Grass-fed means that the cattle are raised on grass rather than grain which results in leaner meat that is higher in omega-3 fatty acids and lower in saturated fat. Sprouts offers a carefully curated selection that resonates with their target customers looking for better-for-you products and a unique shopping experience. This includes numerous products with special attributes, such as organic, gluten-free, plant-based and regenerative in addition to grass-fed options. To make these burgers, combine the grass-fed ground beef with a tsp each of salt, pepper and worcesterchie sauce. Form into patties and cook for 4-5 min on each side before serving with your desired toppings and toasted Sprouts brioche buns.

And finally, no game day spread is complete without sheet pan nachos. Nachos get a bad rap, but they can be a balanced meal or snack when made with quality ingredients—offering a mix of protein, fiber, and healthy fats to keep you satisfied. Start with a layer of Sprouts’ organic tortilla chips on a sheet pan.Top with your protein of choice the grass fed ground beef or black beans, add shredded cheese and bake for 10 minutes at 375°F.

I hope you enjoyed these big game recipes! You can find all of these ingredients and more at Sprout Farmer’s Market.
