ABC News 4: Summer Wellness

Summer is here! It’s Good Food Friday and I’m sharing summer wellness tips to keep healthy and hydrated all season long.

For breakfast, try a smoothie

A smoothie is an easy way to get in your 5 servings of fruits and veggies first thing in the morning. To build a balanced smoothie, add 1-2 servings of fruit, 1-2 servings of mild tasting veggies like spinach or riced cauliflower, fiber-rich fats like chia seeds and protein. Chobani recently expanded their zero sugar yogurt offering into this convenient drinkable format. The Chobani® Zero Sugar Drinks are lactose free and packed with protein with only 50 calories. Also great for on-the-go snacking!

This hydrating salad is perfect for a summer lunch

This salad is a great way to eat your water in the summer packed with hydrating produce. Start with Dandy’s Sweet corn as the base. This is non-gmo, grown and harvested in Florida, Georgia and Michigan and comes pre-shucked, pre-washed and pre-cut so you can save prepping and more time with family and friends. Also perfect for corn on the cobb!  Add in bell pepper, red onion, cilantro, black beans and salsa as a dressing replacement.  I love the Fresh Cravings salsa because its made with a short list of high quality whole food ingredients like vine-ripened tomatoes, crisp vegetables and zesty peppers. It’s also refrigerated instead of jarred. You can find it chilled in the produce section at Publix and Walmart in a range of heat levels and flavor and varieties. Salsa is also the perfect summer snack dip because it’s low in calories and packed with flavor. Pair it with whole grain crackers, chips and veggies.

For dinner, rethink your Taco Tuesday with seafood which offers protein, healthy fats and essential vitamins and minerals

It’s also National Ocean Month and a great way to protect the health of the ocean is by choosing seafood with the Best Aquaculture Practices or “BAP” label which means that its safely, ethically, and responsibly produced. BAP certification is the most comprehensive third-party certification for farmed seafood and follows four pillars – environmental responsibility, worker welfare, food safety, and animal health and welfare.

Finally support your families gut health this summer with Trubiotics which is a science-backed probiotic supplement line

They just launched two new probiotics specially formulated for women. The Women’s Capsules contain one of the most scientifically studied strains of beneficial bacteria for digestive health plus calcium and vitamin D3 to support bone and immune health, and the Sugar-Free Gummies contain probiotics, cranberry, and biotin and collagen for hair, skin and nail health. You can find them at Walgreens.
