It’s Good Food Friday! I’m sharing easy ways to spring clean your diet.
Spring clean your snacks!
First up we have apple sandwiches made with Envy apples – which are the ultimate apple experience – perfectly sweet with satisfying crunch. The slices naturally remain fresh and white longer, so they are great for salads, charcuterie boards, or snacking on their own. You can find them at Whole Foods, Walmart, Trader Joe’s, Publix and Harris teeter.
You can also make snack boxes pairing produce and protein like these zero sugar chicken sticks. If you love jerky- you need to try these – they are by Ovation foods made with lightly seasoned chicken breast and one whole egg so they pack 20 grams of protein per stick. Eggs are incredibly nutrient dense they provide small amounts of almost every single vitamin and mineral and are the single best dietary source of choline, an essential brain nutrient that recent studies suggest most Americans may be low in. You can find them at InOvationfoods.com and on Amazon.
Spring clean your meals!
Next spring clean your meals by replacing high sugar and fat dressing and condiments with better for you options like hummus and salsa. You can use hummus as a salad dressing – I use the Fresh Cravings hummus from Walmart which is super creamy, made short list of high-quality whole food ingredients including Chilean Extra Virgin Olive Oil, chickpeas and savory tahini and comes in craveable flavors like roasted garlic, roasted red pepper, honey jalapeño and everything bagel. You can also use Fresh Cravings salsa as a lightened-up pasta sauce – it’s refrigerated versus jarred so super fresh – found chilled in the produce section at Walmart in a range of heat levels and flavor varieties.
You can also make tuna-less melts using mashed chickpeas and bell peppers as the base. I top mine with grass-fed aged and sharp cheddar cheese by Truly Grass Fed who also makes grass-fed butter available in foil packs and spreadable tubs — all minimally processed and sustainably produced. Grass fed Cheese and butter is typically higher in omega 3 fats and vitamin A. You can find it at Publix.
Spring clean your cooking!
Finally spring clean your cooking method – I shared Basquettes – it’s multipurpose cooking baskets with removable legs and adjustable tops that allow home chefs to cook multiple layers of food in a fraction of the time with 50% less grease while also eliminating the need to tediously flip each piece of food. It does it all- air fry, crisp, roast, rotisserie dehydrate, grill and smoke. Find it on Amazon, Walmart.com and basqeuttes.cooking.
