This weekend is Memorial Day, which means it’s the unofficial start to summer! I shared some healthy and tasty patriotic appetizer, meal and dessert ideas today on Good Food Friday.
Appetizer:
Corn on the cob is a Memorial Day must. You can also serve grilled corn in a fresh seasonal salad, tacos and homemade salsa or guacamole. I shared Dandy’s non-GMO super sweet corn – which comes in recyclable trays – the first in this category. You can find it Whole Foods and more corn recipe inspiration at DudaFresh.com.
Entree:
For our entrée, we have one of my popular recipes – sweet potato bun sliders! What brings these together is the Primal Kitchen Vegan Mayo, which is plant-based version of Primal Kitchen’s best-selling mayo, made with avocado oil, no added sugars, artificial ingredients or eggs. It’s the perfect complement to sandwiches, veggies or appetizers since it makes a great dip or spread. You can find it locally at Whole Foods in the refrigerated aisle.
Another lightened up Memorial Day entrée option is lettuce bun hot dogs. Hofmann is one of the oldest hot dog manufacturers in the US. They still use handcrafted techniques to make their German Franks and Snappys leading with taste since they believe that not all hot dogs are crated equal. They’ve also recently been formulated to have 22% less fat. You can find them locally at Publix and Harris Teeter.
Dessert:
Finally we have a plant-based patriotic dessert. This is a cheesecake made with milkadamia which is a plant-based macadamia-based milk and creamer made in the US. I love it because it has a smooth and creamy taste and texture and is mild in flavor so incorporates seamlessly into recipes. What’s also great about milkadamia is that they support regenerative farming practices. You can find them in major grocery stores and on Amazon.
