ABC News 4: Build a Better Breakfast

Real Source Water Lentil, Sunbutter, Redwood Hill Farm

It’s National Breakfast month! Today I shared tips to build a better breakfast on Good Food Friday.

Tip 1: Incorporate greens

My first tip is to incorporate greens into your breakfast. First there was kale, then there was avocado now there is water lentils which is the hottest sustainable superfood. It’s a good source of plant protein, fiber, vitamins, minerals and antioxidants. All the products by Real Source are made with water lentils and are an easy way to get your daily greens.

Tip 2: Incorporate protein

Protein adds staying power to breakfast and yogurt and kefir are two nutritious sources. I shared yogurt and kefir by Redwood Hill Farm made with goat milk which has more calcium, potassium and magnesium than whole cows milk. Many people find it easier to digest because it has smaller fat globules, that allow our digestive enzymes to break it down more rapidly. Plus it has a clean, fresh taste so there are many ways to enjoy it.

Tip 3: Incorporate healthy fats

Next add healthy fats to your breakfast. Sunflower Butter is a great option! Sunbutter is made from roasted sunflower seeds and simple ingredients. It has more vitamins and minerals than most nut butters but and less saturated fat AND it’s free from the top 8 food allergens since it’s made from seeds versus nuts.
