Incorporating more plant-based foods is not only good for our health but the environment as well! Today I shared some unique ways to do just that on ABC Good Food Friday!
An easy way to meet your 5 servings of fruits and veggies per day
I shared ready-to-blend smoothies by The Frozen Garden. Simply add liquid, blend and enjoy! As a dietitian, I love that they are made with a base of dark leafy greens, which are some of the most nutrient-rich veggies – followed by ingredients like fruit, seeds and spices. You can find them at TheFrozenGarden.com and used the code EARTHDAY for $5 off your order!
Plant-based superfoods are easy to add to everyday meals
Plant-based superfoods are foods with a high level of nutrients relative to their calories. I shared some of my favorite by Suncore Foods including goji berries and cacao nibs – both known for their antioxidants, which research shows may help slow down the aging process. Chia seeds are an excellent source of fiber in fact– 1 tablespoon has more fiber than an apple! You can find them at SuncoreFoods.com. You can also use the code EARTHDAY for 20% off your order!
Meatless meal made easy
I shared vegan Moroccan empanadas by Sweet Earth, which is a company that makes delicious plant-based products. It’s made with chickpeas and vegetables, with a flakey crust – you can find it in the freezer section of our local Harris Teeter, Publix and Whole Foods. It’s a great option for those looking to limit their meat intake – which is good for our health and the planet – it drastically eliminates the amount of greenhouse gases emitted and the gallons of water used to produce meat.
A good-for-you kind of shot!
Apple cider vinegar has been linked to a slew of health benefits from digestion to blood sugar regulation. Besides adding it to salad dressings, another way to incorporate it is in shots. I shared some by Ethan’s flavored with fruit and spices – like pineapple and ginger. They’ve also tailored them to around the acidity of orange juice, so it’s easier to drink! You can find them at Whole Foods, Amazon and Ethans.com.
