CBS, Your Carolina: Host a Healthy Holiday Party

Today on CBS WSPA-TV, Your Carolina, I shared tips on how to host a healthy holiday party that will impress your guests.

Appetizers: produce, protein and healthy fats

My first tip is to center your appetizers around produce, protein and healthy fats – it’s going to satisfy you without ruining your appetite. I shared my guacamole tower made with the Yucatan Guacamole in mild, spicy and authentic (which is their most popular, award-winning flavor). I love this guac because it tastes homemade- it’s hand-scooped, perfectly seasoned and has a chunky texture.

Produce apps for the busy hostess

Next up, I shared breaded Jalapeño Peppers filled with real cream cheese and breaded Avocado Slices with a zesty jalapeño ranch dipping sauce by Farm Rich, which can find them in the freezer aisle in most major grocery stores – super delicious, time saving appetizers that will definitely impress your guests.

An easy, crowd-pleasing main course

For our main course we have the Smithfield Spiral Sliced Ham. I love this as an entrée because it’s perfectly cooked and spiral sliced for you so it makes holiday cooking a breeze – and the best part is that you’ll definitely have leftovers to enjoy. Smithfield.com/holidayhub is a great resource for foolproof tips and simple recipes to really wow your guests.

Healthy festive dessert

For dessert we have HEALTHY thumbprint cookies. What I did in this recipe was swap butter for better – I used Cocavo, which is a coconut and avocado oil blend from New Zealand that just hit Walmart stores nationwide. And if you love the sweet flavor of coconut oil – this is a healthier alternative because it’s lower in saturated fat and higher in those good plant-based fats.

Beverage with benefits

Finally I shared beverages with benefits – my 3-ingredient cocktails made with the Wonder Drink Prebiotic Kombuchas. They are the only kombuchas to contain PREbiotics instead of probiotics, which is a plant-based fiber that’s helps nourish the good bacteria in your gut to promote a happy digestive system. They’re certified organic, each can has 9-10 grams of sugar and they’re non-alcoholic.
