Fruity cocktails are easily becoming my go-to beverage of choice during the hot summer weekends here in the south. I like to keep it simple when it comes to my cocktails. Keeping the ingredient list short helps keep prep time to a minimum and allows you to wake up feeling refreshed rather than bogged down. Mint Juleps, Moscow Mules, Sangria and Bellinis have become my favorite beverages to order on summer weekends but sometimes I prefer making my own concoctions and putting my handy Breville Juicer to good use.
Fruit is nature’s sweetener that happens to provide as much nutritive benefit as it does flavor. Known for their subtle sweetness, grapefruits are the less coveted of fruits but certainly do not fall short on the nutritional spectrum. Similar to oranges, vitamin C is the nutrient standout– attributed to improved immunity, prevention of kidney stone formation (particularly, calcium oxalate stones) and lowering of triglycerides and cholesterol for a healthy cardiovascular system.
Mint adds a hint of freshness to this cold summer beverage and I wouldn’t recommend making it without it! With this southern heat, I crave refreshing scents and flavors. Mint is the most refreshing of all herbs and boasts healing properties related to its ability to relax smooth muscle. Stay cool and refreshed this summer and share your creations with me on Instagram!
