I know that as a woman, we often turn to makeup in order to look and feel our best but as a DIETITIAN, I know that it really starts on our plate!
Certain foods have been specifically studied for their perceived ability to slow the aging process. I call these “beauty foods” including:
Cocoa: Yes, I am giving chocolate the green light! Cocoa is rich in anitoxidants and anti-inflammatory components which reduce the severity of sunburns and improve blood flow to the skin.
Salmon: Fatty fish like salmon are high in omega-3 fats which protect collagen and limit UV damage.
Tomato: Tomatoes are packed with lycopene which has been shown to decrease the ill-effects of sunburns!
Collagen: Collagen protein makes up most of our skin, joints and bones and after the age of 25, the amount of collagen we produce naturally declines which can manifest as wrinkles and thinning hair, for example. Collagen powders like this Super Collagen by NeoCell have been shown to help fill in the gaps.
These beauty bars are made with collagen protein and dark chocolate with all the flavor of a candy bar. You can whip these up in 10 minutes, place them in the freezer and they are ready to eat in a hour.
If you make these, be sure to share with me on Instagram!
