Summer juice is all about color and for a nutrition-lover that means phytonutrients. Juicing is an efficient way to meet your micronutrient quota for the day. One juice can pack up to 9 servings of your daily fruits and vegetables! I wanted to have three different juices for guests to try, each of a different color and featuring different summer produce. I like to serve the juice in clear pitchers or milk bottles like the ones pictured here so it is easier to discern which one you may be craving.
Making your green juice:
The secret to a good green juice is adding just enough fruit to mask the bitterness of the leafy greens (ie. kale). Green leafy vegetables are some of the most nutrient-rich foods we can add to our diet. Here are some green vegetables that are currently in season for you to utilize in your green juice (or feel free to try my combination below).
Green in-season produce: green bell peppers, celery, collard greens, cucumbers, green beans, zucchini, honeydew melon, kiwifruit
Making your orange juice:
Though oranges aren’t in season during the summer months, I still utilized them in my orange-based juice since they seem to be a breakfast staple when it comes to beverages. Thankfully there are many orange-colored produce that are in season right now.
Orange in-season produce: apricots, carrots, cantaloupe, carrots, mango, peach
Making your red/pink juice:
Watermelon is a clear standout when it comes to red-colored summer produce. Because it is such a water-rich fruit, it can easily stand on its own in a summer juice. I will add some fresh mint or ginger to add a little kick.
Red in-season produce: beets, cherries, raspberries, strawberries, watermelon
